Armenians making minimum wage will see an increase in salary of 5,000 drams – about $12 – beginning next January. The current minimum wage is 45,000 (about $110) per month.

Hakob Hakobyan, head of the Standing Committee on Social Issues of the National Assembly made the announcement Wednesday, adding that the maximum salary the state pays its employees will be about 20 times the minimum wage.

The upcoming increase will be the second raise in a six month period as this July the minimum wage rose from 35,000 (about $85) to its present rate.
