A candidate for the Ohio Congress has called gun control a cause of the Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust.
Samuel “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher, running in the ninth district, has released a campaign video that says:
“In 1911 Turkey established gun control; from 1915 to 1917 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated. In 1939 Germany established gun control; from 1939 to 1945 6 million Jews, 7 million others, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated.”
The video has outraged American Jews, who say Wurzelbacher is turning their national horror into campaign rhetoric.
In a uniquely American reaction to random fame, Wurzelbacher became a celebrity in 2008, when he was singled out in a John McCain campaign speech as representing “blue collar” America. He has since turned talk-show popularity into a bid for becoming a lawmaker.
The Republican candidate’s video features him shooting tomatoes, while defending the right to own guns and concluding “I love America”.
