Valerie Boyer, a pro-Armenian representative of the French National Assembly, is said to be drafting a new bill penalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide.
According to the Turkish news agency Cihan, the re-elected lawmaker has promised to submit to the country’s parliament a new resolution conforming to all constitutional demands.
Boyer’s first bill making public denial of the Armenian Genocide in France punishable with imprisonment and a fine of €45,000 (about $56,000) was approved by the French Senate in January. A group of parliamentarians opposing the law later applied to the Constitutional Council asking it to review the document’s compatibility with the country’s basic law. The Council eventually declared the law unconstitutional.
