The “Oil King”
A monument to prominent Armenian oil magnate, industrialist, financier, and philanthropist Alexander Mantashyants (1842-1911; better known as Mantashev) has been installed on Abovyan street, downtown Yerevan. The statue created by sculptor Tigran Arzumanyan and financed by the Mantashyants family, depicts the dignified and modest man he was despite all his wealth – one of the richest men of his time. The official opening will be Wednesday when his grandson Alexander Mantashev arrives for the ceremony.
