A group of police officers on duty in a Yerevan park off Mashtots Boulevard addressed an open letter to the Chief of Armenia’s Police Vladimir Gasparyan, inviting his attention to “the offensive attitude of certain environmental activists towards the policemen”.

“There is ample video material on YouTube showing that policemen are neglected and even mocked. We are well aware of the fact that there are certain people among the activists who intentionally get on our nerves trying to provoke us, but do that with calculated caution. Some don’t make fun of us directly, but put us in awkward positions, hurting our dignity. What’s a policeman to do in such cases when there is no direct insult but apparent mockery and disregard?” says the letter, in part.

“We are against rude intervention and application of force against our compatriots, our citizens, however, the society should understand that we, too, as citizens of Armenia, as law enforcers, have the right not to be made a mock of or when we are, then we, too, have the right to respond accordingly to those offending police officers of the Republic of Armenia.”
