Interactive Premier: Tigran Sargsyan launches blog

Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan joined the list of Armenian bloggers hoping that it will give him an opportunity to “communicate with people directly.”

The 50-year-old prime minister in his first post on http://tigransargsyan.livejournal.com/ commented on the main motivation for launching a blog: “The press very often imposes its opinion during our dialogue, depriving us of a direct communication. That is the reason why I have created this space for us, where I will present my thoughts and ideas, and you will be able to comment on my speeches and actions directly.”

The blog, which was launched January 14, has 153 friends, and 153 comments, where Armenian bloggers from Armenia and abroad greet the prime minister and wish him good luck in the virtual world.

The prime minister has already managed to get some questions.

An anonymous blogger, appreciating the prime minister’s initiative, writes, “You are, certainly, a smart person. The creation of this blog also proves that. However, sorry, but common sense and intellect are not applied factors in the Government headed by you,” the blogger says and asks, “You speak very well, but why aren’t concrete actions followed by your speeches?”

The ‘traffic’ is one-sided in the blog yet, and the prime minister has not managed to reply to a number of questions addressed to him, however, according to Sargsyan’s assistant, the blog will be updated periodically.

“The blog will certainly be updated, the questions will get their answers with concrete frequency. I cannot say how often, but it will be regularly,” Aram Ananyan, assistant to the prime minister told ArmeniaNow.

President Serzh Sargsyan and Mayor of Yerevan Gagik Beglaryan are among the Armenian officials who have their blogs. However, they were quite formal, without a regular updating. President Sargsyan launched his blog after the March 1-2 events, on March 10, 2008, however the last posing there was on March 26, 2008; and the blog is not updated since.

“As far as I know, the prime minister’s blog will be more active, and I hope that it will not have the fortune of the previous officials’ non-functioning blogs,” blogger Arthur Papyan told ArmeniaNow. According to his data, currently there are 3,000 bloggers registered in the blog sphere in Armenia, however, only 300 of them are actively running.
