Cancelled Parada: Film related to gays issue will not be screened in Puppet Theatre

Given the high media interest and protest actions provoked by the possible screening of a film about gay rights in the Yerevan Puppet Theatre, the directorship of the theatre make a decision not to show the film.

The film “Parada” of the Serbian director Srdjan Dragojevic was planned to be shown in the Puppet theatre on October 15-16, organized by the German Embassy and the European Union as part of events to promote tolerance and non-discrimination.

The news on demonstration the film related to LGBT has raised a wave of discontent in social nets, with many people expressing their indignation.

Hayazn Union organized an action of protest in front of the German Embassy with blogger Tigran Kocharyan saying that “showing this film in the puppet theatre and placing relevant posters there is like perverting children.” Kocharyan mentioned however it is not a sign of intolerance, but a matter of inadmissibility of breaking the norms of morality.

Eventually the director cancelled the film’s screening in his theatre. In his Facebook account the blogger thanked the director for his principle-based decision.” It is good, that in Armenian artists’ sphere such people exist,”he wrote.
