Football

Pyunik – Armenia’s champion: FC Pyunik Yerevan lost to Abovyan’s Esteghlal-Kotayk 0-1 in the penultimate round of Armenia’s national championship, but the defeat did not prevent the Yerevan side from winning the champion’s title for the fifth consecutive year.

Ashtarak’s Mika managed to rise to the second place beating its main rival Banants from Yerevan – 4-1.

With only one round remaining, Pyunik with 36 points is unreachable for second-placed Mika (with 32 points).

The contest for the second and third places will continue on the last day of the championship, November 6. The main events on that day are expected in the Esteghlal-Kotayk v Mika match. The Abovyan side are now in the third place with 31 points. Banants, which are now in the fourth position with 30 points, will play the capital’s Dinamo-Zenit, and still have chances to finish third or second.
