Unease in the Center: Area around Liberty Square becomes stand off
Blocks of streets around Liberty Square have become scenes of violent flare-ups between law enforcement and the public as word spreads that government troops have taken over the territory where supporters of Levon Ter-Petrosyan were camped.
At the corners of Tumanyan/Mashtots, Terian/Tumanyan, Mashtots/Sayat Nova and Sayat Nova/Terian crowds have gathered, sporadically scattering as police chase others through their midst.
Police regulated situation in the adjacent the scene urging people not to gather in groups.
Many of the injured from the public refused to go to hospital for fear of being arrested.
Police conducted mass arrests. Minivans filled with police arrived at different points to increase the swelling number of law enforcement.
